Tidy Towns and Amenity Grant 2026
Minutes:
Director of Services, Mr. Chris Flynn, sought approval for the allocations under the Tidy Towns and Amenity Grant Scheme 2026, as circulated at the meeting. He advised that 58 eligible applications had been received from community groups and voluntary organisations, and that funding was being provided to support the delivery of small-scale amenity projects in their local areas. A total budget of €75,000 has been allocated to the scheme. The recommended allocations are as follows:

Cathaoirleach Cllr. Callaghan welcomed the allocations and commended the work being carried out by community volunteers.
Members also welcomed the funding and raised the following points:
· The increased need to encourage and recruit additional volunteers.
· The scheme was described as highly worthwhile, enabling valuable work to be undertaken.
· The scheme was noted as complementing the work of Tidy Towns groups.
· Concerns were raised regarding rising costs impacting community groups.
· Issues relating to dog fouling and measures to address it were highlighted.
· It was noted there were significantly lower number of applications from the Athlone MD.
· Calls were made for additional bins and street sweeping machinery in towns.
· Members expressed praise for litter wardens and their effectiveness in dealing with illegal dumping.
Mr. Flynn confirmed that the scheme had been promoted through strong communication channels, including email and social media.
