Specified Development by a Local Authority in accordance with the provisions of Section 179 of the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended) and Article 81 of Part 8 of the Planning and Development Regulations 2001 (as amended) that Roscommon County Council proposes to carry out the following development: N63/L7051 (Roscommon) Road Safety Improvement Scheme
Minutes: John Freeman, Senior Executive Engineer, Roads presented the Part 8. There was one submission from Molloy’s Bakery, Abbeytown due to concerns about a loss of car parking spaces and the ability of large vehicles to access their premises.
The members welcomed the Part 8 and On the PROPOSAL of Cllr. McDermott SECONDED by Cllr. Brennan It was AGREED by all the members to approve the Part 8.
Members commented as follows:
· Acknowledge proactive work of the Roads Department in securing funding and engaging with the TII to improve this junction · The importance of putting proper measures in place to enhance safety at this junction · Thanks to the Roads Department of Roscommon County Council for coming up with solutions and liaising with the business owners · Request for ongoing future monitoring of this junction and consultations with stakeholders as required · Request for contractors to engage with business owners · Request for directional signage at the train station to notify pedestrians of the safe crossing point · Request for one hour parking spaces to be defined on the map · Request for ducting at the junction to provide for future pedestrian/pelican lighting or traffic lights if required · Request for an epoxy finish to look like gravel instead of the gravel area
