In accordance with Section 22(c) and Part V of the Local Government Reform Act, 2014 to elect the Cathaoirleach of the Roscommon Municipal District to hold office until his/her successor shall have been appointed in accordance with law.

Cllr. Fitzmaurice opened the meeting and welcomed everyone.  He expressed his condolences to the Finneran family on the passing of Liam Finneran who served as General Services Supervisor in the Castlerea Area Office for many years.  He also paid tribute to John Vaughan and Edward Shannon on the 100^th Anniversary of their shooting by the Black and Tans at Cloonsuck, Castlerea.  John Vaughan worked with Roscommon County Council.

As outgoing Cathaoirleach, he thanked the members and staff for their support during the year and sought nominations for the position of Cathaoirleach of the Roscommon Municipal District for the forthcoming year.

On the PROPOSAL of Councillor Dineen

             SECONDED by Councillor Waldron

It was AGREED that Councillor Shanagher be elected Cathaoirleach of the Roscommon Municipal District to hold office until her successor shall be appointed in accordance with law. As there were no other nominations, Cllr. Shanagher was deemed to be elected.

Cllr. Shanagher thanked the members for their support in electing her.  Congratulations were expressed to Cllr. Shanagher in conjunction with appreciation to everyone for their help during the past year.  The members all thanked Cllr. Fitzmaurice for his hard work during this difficult year.

Congratulations were also conveyed to Martin Lydon on his recent achievement of acquiring the position of Chief Executive of Sligo County Council.  The members wished him every success in his new role.

Councillor Shanagher sought nominations for the position of Leas-Cathaoirleach of Roscommon Municipal District for the forthcoming year.

It was AGREED that Councillor McDermott be elected as Leas-Cathaoirleach of the Roscommon Municipal District to hold office until his successor shall be appointed in accordance with law.  As there were no other nominations, Councillor McDermott was deemed to be elected.

Councillor McDermott thanked everyone and is looking forward to the year ahead. The members congratulated Councillor McDermott and wished him well.
