Mr Shane Tiernan, Director of Services, welcomed everyone to the Annual Meeting. He congratulated members re-elected and newly elected and commiserated with the unsuccessful candidates.

He paid tribute to outgoing Cathaoirleach Councillor Michael Mulligan for his co-operation and impartiality during his term of office.

He wished retired Councillor Rachel Doherty well and thanked her for her time as a hard working public representative.

He then invited proposals for the election of Cathaoirleach.

On the PROPOSAL of Councillor John Cummins,

            SECONDED by Councillor Liam Callaghan

 It was AGREED to elect Councillor Joe Murphy as Cathaoirleach of Boyle MD.

Councillor Joe Murphy thanked his proposer and seconder. He expressed the wish that there would be co-operation and team effort to build on the trust that exists between the Representatives and the County Council for the continued development of the District.

There followed unanimous thanks for Councillor Mulligan for his fair and even approach during his term as Cathaoirleach.

All the members then wished Councillor Murphy well in the year ahead.

The Cathaoirleach invited proposals for the position of Leas Cathaoirleach.

On the PROPOSAL of Councillor Tom Crosby

            SECONDED by Councillor John Cummins,

  It was AGREED to elect Councillor Liam Callaghan as Leas Cathaoirleach of Boyle MD.

Councillor Callaghan thanked members for their support and paid tribute to Councillor Michael Mulligan for his fairness while in the position of Cathaoirleach.

Councillor Cummins expressed his sympathy, as did all present, with Councillor Valerie Byrne on the death of her Mother Mrs Mai Neary.

Councillor Byrne thanked all for their messages of sympathy and support on her great loss and referred to her long familial association with politics right back to Clann na Talún days.

Councillor Byrne welcomed the appointment of Engineering staff to the Boyle and Strokestown areas and wished John Quigley and Jason Corbett well in their respective postions as Area Engineers in Boyle and Strokestown.
