Election of Cathaoirleach In accordance with Section 22(c) and Part V of the Local Government Reform Act, 2014 to elect the Cathaoirleach of the Athlone Municipal District to hold office until his/her successor shall have been appointed in accordance with law.
Minutes: Caitlín Conneely, Director of Services welcomed everyone to the AGM of Athlone Municipal District. She acknowledged all the candidates that put their names forward for election. Congratulating all the Members on their re-election and welcomed Cllr. Dominick Connolly newly elected Member for Athlone MD.
Caitlín Conneely invited proposals for the election of the Cathaoirleach. It was Proposed by: Cllr. J Naughten Seconded by: Cllr. E Kelly
That Cllr. John Keogh be elected as Cathaoirleach of Athlone Municipal District.
As there were no other nominations for the position of Cathaoirleach it was deemed that Cllr. Johm Keogh be elected Cathaoirleach of the Athlone MD to hold office until his successor is appointed in accordance with the law.
Cllr. John Keogh thanked his proposer and seconder and fellow Councillors for their support and is looking forward to working with all the Members and Staff of Roscommon County Council in the forthcoming year.
The Members and Director of Services extended their congratulations to Cllr. John Keogh on his election as Cathaoirleach and wished him well for the forthcoming year.
Members thanked Cllr. Emer Kelly for the excellent job she had done during her term as Cathaoirleach.

Election of Leas-Cathaoirleach In accordance with Section 22(c) and Part V of the Local Government Reform Act, 2014 to elect the Leas-Cathaoirleach of the Athlone Municipal District to hold office until his/her successor shall have been appointed in accordance with law.
Minutes: Cllr. J Keogh sought nominations for the position of Leas-Cathaoirleach.
It was Proposal by: Cllr. L Fallon Seconded by: Cllr J Naughten
That Cllr. Dominick Connolly be elected as Leas-Cathaoirleach of Athlone MD.
As there were no other nominations for the position of Leas-Cathaoirleach it was deemed that Cllr. Domonick Connolly be elected as Leas-Cathaoirleach of Athlone MD to hold office until his successor is appointed in accordance with the law.
Cllr. Dominick Connolly thanked his proposer and seconder and fellow Councillors for his nomination and is looking forward to working with all the Members in the coming year.
Members and Director of Services extended their congratulations to Cllr. Domonick Connolly on his election as Leas-Cathaoirleach and wished him well for the forthcoming year.

Date of Meetings To fix dates on which the Municipal District Meetings will be held within the period to 31st May, 2025 (Provisional list of dates attached).

It was AGREED to adopt the dates for Athlone MD Meetings for 2024/2025.
On the Proposal of: Cllr. T Ward Seconded by: Cllr. L Fallon
The following dates were adopted with amendments,
30th July, 2024 (Municipal) 24th September, 2024 (Municipal) 26th November, 2024 (Municipal) 28th January, 2025 ( Municipal) 25th March, 2025 (Municipal) 20th May, 2025 (Municipal) (AGM Municipal District) TBC June 2025.
Cllr J Naughten raised the issue of Bus Services not operating on a regular basis on the Roscommon Side of Athlone. He requested Cllr John Keogh as Chaoirleach of Athlone MD to seek a meeting with Westmeath County Council to identify the issues and if necessary to seek a meeting with NTA, to resolve the issues and also to request extension of services out to Coláiste Chiaráin . Cllr J Keogh agreed to speak with Cathaoirleach of Westmeath County Council on these issues.
Cllr. J Keogh requested that Members adhere to the Standing Orders in relation to raising issues at meeting.

The Members to send a request to the Standing Orders Committee, that Members can submit two Notice of Motions at Municipal District Meetings, as the standing orders are at present under review.
