Election of Cathaoirleach

In accordance with Section 22(c) and Part V of the Local Government Reform Act, 2014 to elect the Cathaoirleach of the Boyle Municipal District to hold office until his/her successor shall have been appointed in accordance with law.

 

Minutes:

Greg O’Donnell opened the meeting and welcomed everyone to the Annual General Meeting of Boyle Municipal District. Mr. O’Donnell sought nominations for the position of Cathaoirleach of Boyle Municipal District for the forthcoming year.

 

 It was PROPOSED by Councillor Micheál Frain

             SECONDED by Councillor Sean Moylan

 

 That Councillor Tom Crosby be elected Cathaoirleach of the Boyle Municipal District

 

Greg O’Donnell sought further nominations for the position of Cathaoirleach

 

Councillor Valerie Byrne Proposed Councillor Leah Cull.  As there was no Seconder, the proposal was deemed to have failed. 

 

Councillor Tom Crosby was duly elected as Cathaoirleach of Boyle Municipal District.

 

Councillor Tom Crosby thanked his proposer and seconder. Councillor Crosby said that it was an honour to be elected and he looked forward to working with fellow elected members in a fair and equitable manner. He also thanked the outgoing Cathaoirleach, Councillor Liam Callaghan, for the excellent manner in which he conducted his tenure.

 

  • Councillor Crosby welcomed the newly elected members and wished retired Councillors well for the future.
  • He said that a lot of progress has been made in the Boyle Municipal District working with the executive, Greg O’Donnell, Ivor Kilcline, the Area Engineers and all the staff in the Municipal District.
  • Councillor Crosby said that there is a lot of investment coming to the area and welcomed the recently announced funding under the Just Transition Fund with €1.2m of the fund going to Lough Key.
  • He also welcomed the funding for the feasibility study in relation to the proposed Mid Shannon Greenway project in the area of Ballyleague/Lanesborough, Strokestown, Roosky and Tarmonbarry.
  • Councillor Crosby said that investment brings challenges for the Municipal District and Councillors have to make decisions in the best interest of the Municipal District. He referred to the

Strokestown Public Realm project and the unjustified fear generated about the project, the decision made was the right one as it brings an investment of €8m to Strokestown.  Similar tough decisions may need to be taken over the next five years. Councillor Crosby referenced the opposition to the construction of new Civic Offices in 2012 but that the decision to proceed with the project at that time proved to the best decision for the town and county.

 

Councillor Callaghan congratulated Councillor Crosby on his election as Cathaoirleach of the Boyle Municipal District.  Councillor Callaghan thanked the members for their co-operation and assistance to him during his tenure as Cathaoirleach and commended the work undertaken by the Municipal District during the course of the year.  He also commended all the Municipal District staff for their support throughout his term.

 

Councillors Frain, Moylan, Byrne and Cull also congratulated Councillor Crosby on his election as Cathaoirleach of Boyle Municipal District for the coming year.

Election of Leas-Cathaoirleach

In accordance with Section 22(c) and Part V of the Local Government Reform Act, 2014 to elect the Leas-Cathaoirleach of the Boyle Municipal District to hold office until his/her successor shall have been appointed in accordance with law.

 

Minutes:

Councillor Tom Crosby sought nominations for the position of Leas-Cathaoirleach for the Boyle Municipal District for the forthcoming year.

Councillor Leah Cull proposed Councillor Valerie Byrne as Leas-Cathaoirleach.  As there was no seconder, the proposal was deemed to have failed.

Councillor Tom Crosby sought further nominations for Leas-Cathaoirleach.

            SECONDED by Councillor Micheál Frain

That Councillor Sean Moylan be elected as Leas-Cathaoirleach of Boyle Municipal District.

Councillor Tom Crosby declared Councillor Sean Moylan as Leas-Cathaoirleach of the Boyle Municipal District for the coming year.

Councillor Sean Moylan thanked his proposer and seconder for the position of Leas-Cathaoirleach.  He stated he was looking forward to the year ahead and to working with the members and the executive.

Members congratulated Councillors Crosby and Moylan on their election as Cathaoirleach and Leas-Cathaoirleach respectively for the coming year and stated that they will all will work together for the benefit of the Boyle Municipal District.

 

The Councillors referenced the following projects they would like to see progressed during the next five years:

 

  • N61 Tulsk to Clashaganny Road Project
  • Ballaghaderreen project
  • Road Safety
  • Traffic Calming
  • Active Travel
  • Regeneration of Boyle town
  • Tourism
  • Tulsk to Shankhill road
  • Funding for towns and villages
