Matters Arising

Minutes:

Cllr Callaghan queried if there was an update on the progress of the roadworks in Frenchpark village.  Mr. Ivor Kilcline Municipal District Co-Ordinator informed the members that the contractor is finishing the overlay and that road markings will be placed on the approach road from Boyle.

Briefing Note (Speed Limits on National Roads)

Minutes:

Mr. John Freeman, Senior Executive Engineer provided the members with an update on Speed Limits to be applied on roads in Boyle Municipal District area.  It is hoped to bring the matter to the Plenary Meeting scheduled for December.

RosSligo Greenway Working Group Presentation

Minutes:

Mr. Owen Madden of the RosSligo Greenway Group gave a presentation to the elected members on the Kilfree Railway Line linking two communities, that is Roscommon and Sligo. 

Mr. Madden stated that the proposed project is a greenway which will create a recreation corridor, predominantly traffic free which can be enjoyed by most members of society.  It will provide many benefits such as economic and environmental benefits.  It will foster sustainability and provide health and cultural benefits in the region.  The proposed route is 16.5 km in distance.  The group have received €95,000 to carry out a feasibility study and it is hoped that consultants will be appointed in the new year to conduct this study.  The elected members and officials from Roscommon County Council thanked Mr. Owen Madden, Ros/Sligo Greenway Group for his excellent presentation. 

The elected members supported the project saying it will provide great opportunities and attract tourism to the area.  Mr. Greg O’Donnell, Acting Director of Services added his support for the project.

Abandonment of a Public Road, Roads Act 1993, Section 12 - Local Road L50129

It was AGREED that in accordance with Section 12 of the Roads Act 1993 that Local Road No. L50129 for a distance of 276 metres at Enagh, Croghan be abandoned.

LIS Scheme

Minutes:

Cllr Joe Murphy queried when the LIS scheme would open for applicants.  Mr. Greg O’Donnell, Acting Director of Services stated that the scheme will be advertised in December.

Roads Programme 2023

Minutes:

Cllr J Cummins asked if consideration could be given to include more overlay/DBM on local roads in the 2023 Roads  Programme due to the large volume of traffic using these roads. 

Mr. Ivor Kilcline, Municipal District Co-Ordinator, said that this would be considered. 

Mr. Greg O’Donnell, Acting Director of Services stated that each road would be considered on a case by case basis to ensure that the road material used would be suitable for the road in question

New Staff in Ballaghaderreen Area Office

Minutes:

Cllr Callaghan queried when a new engineer would be appointed in the Ballaghadereen area.  Mr. Greg O’Donnell, Acting Director of Services said the position is in the process of being filled.
