Election of Cathaoirleach

In accordance with Section 22(c) and Part V of the Local Government Reform Act, 2014 to elect the Cathaoirleach of the Athlone Municipal District to hold office until his/her successor shall have been appointed in accordance with law.

 

Minutes:

The Cathaoirleach Cllr. J Naughten welcomed everyone to the AGM of Athlone Municipal District. He thanked his fellow Members and the Staff of Roscommon Council for their support and co-operation over the past year, working together for the benefit of the Municipal District.

He acknowledged the significance of the hard work of the Volunteer groups that enables the delivery of projects in the community

The Cathaoirleach invited proposals for the election of the Cathaoirleach.

 

It was Proposed by:  Cllr. L Fallon

           Seconded by: Cllr. J Keogh

That Cllr. E Kelly be elected as Cathaoirleach of Athlone Municipal District.

 

It was Proposed by:  Cllr. T Ward

          Seconded by:  Cllr D Kilduff

That Cllr. D Kilduff be elected as Cathaoirleach of Athlone Municipal District.

 

Cllr. J Naughten called for a vote on the position of Cathaoirleach and the Councillors voted in the following manner:

 

Voting for election of Cllr. E Kelly – Cllr. L Fallon, Cllr. E Kelly, Cllr. J Keogh, Cllr. J Naughten (4 Votes)

Voting for election of Cllr. D Kilduff – Cllr. D Kilduff, Cllr. T Ward (2 votes)

 

It was deemed that Cllr. E Kelly be elected Cathaoirleach of the Athlone MD to hold office until her successor is appointed in accordance with the law.

 

Cllr. E Kelly thanked her proposer and seconder and fellow Councillors for their support and looked forward to a hardworking and hopefully positive year ahead.

 

The Members and Director of Services extended their congratulation to Cllr. E Kelly on her election as Cathaoirleach and wished her well for the forthcoming year.

Members thanked Cllr. J Naughten for the excellent job he had done during his term as Cathaoirleach

Election of Leas-Cathaoirleach

In accordance with Section 22(c) and Part V of the Local Government Reform Act, 2014 to elect the Leas-Cathaoirleach of the Athlone Municipal District to hold office until his/her successor shall have been appointed in accordance with law.

 

Minutes:

Cllr E Kelly sought nominations for the position of Leas-Cathaoirleach

 

It was Proposed by:  Cllr. J Keogh

           Seconded by:Cllr. J Naughten

That Cllr. L Fallon be elected as Leas-Cathaoirleach

 

It was Proposed by:  Cllr. D Kilduff

           Seconded by: Cllr. T Ward

That Cllr. T Ward be elected as Leas-Cathaoirleach

 

Cllr. E Kelly called for a vote on the position of Leas-Cathaoirleach and the Councillors voted in the following manner:

 

Voting for the election of Cllr. L Fallon-          Cllr. L Fallon, Cllr. E Kelly, Cllr. J Keogh, Cllr. J Naughten  (4 votes)

Voting for the election of Cllr. T Ward -          Cllr. D Kilduff, Cllr. T Ward (2 votes)

 

It was deemed that Cllr. L Fallon be elected as Leas-Cathaoirleach of the Athlone MD to hold office until his successor is appointed in accordance with the law.

 

Cllr. L Fallon thanked his proposer and seconder and fellow Councillors  and is looking forward to working with all Members in the coming year.

 

Members and Director of Services extended their congratulations to Cllr. L Fallon on his election as Leas-Cathaoirleach and wished his well for the forthcoming year.

Date of Meetings

To fix dates on which the Municipal District Meetings will be held within the period to 31st

May, 2024 (Provisional list of dates attached).

It was AGREED that the Athlone MD Meetings for 2023/2024 take place on the following dates:

 

19th September, 2023 (Municipal

21st November, 2023 (Municipal)

30th January, 2024 (Municipal)

26th March, 2024 (Municipal)

21st May, 2024 (Municipal)

TBC June, 2024 (Municipal District AGM)

         Seconded by:   Cllr. J Naughten

 

The Members AGREED that the position of Cathaoirleach of the Municipal Districts is a prestigious position and should carry a chain of office. They have requested that it be considered for next term of office.
