Matters Arising

Minutes:

EIRGRID

Cllr Byrne informed the meeting that Eirgrid have confirmed that they will make a presentation in Carrick on Shannon in respect of the North Connacht 110kV Project which will provide the public with an opportunity to gain information on the project.

 

SPEED LIMITS

Cllr Byrne queried if there has been an update in relation to revised speed limits at certain points near urban areas and the position of the TII on this matter.  Mr. Shane Tiernan, Director of Services, stated there had been none.

 

PEDESTRIAN CROSSING AT CORTOBER

Cllr Byrne queried the location of the pedestrian crossing at Cortober, Carrick on Shannon.  Mr. Michael Conlon, Boyle Municipal District Co-Ordinator explained that this location had been chosen because the footpath is wider at this point and facilitates the erection of appropriate signage.

Launch of Boyle Age Friendly Strategy

Minutes:

Following a short introduction to the Boyle Age Friendly Strategy Program Cllr Cummins suggested that once the members have been furnished with a copy of what is proposed in Boyle in relation to Boyle Age Friendly Strategy they could then ask questions on the content of the program.  Cllr Byrne supported this suggestion

Status of the Area Offices

Minutes:

Cllr Mulligan enquired about the current status of the area offices in Ballaghadereen, Strokestown and Castlerea.  Mr. Shane Tiernan, Director of Services stated that public access to these offices has been suspended or limited due to the challenges these buildings pose in relation to adhering to social distancing. 

Cllr Mulligan noted that all telephone queries are being redirected to a central line rather than to the area office.  Cllr Mulligan stated that this is causing delays in the reporting and the solving of issues when they arise.  All of the members agreed that the local area offices play a major role in the manner in which the members carry out their work

Cllr Byrne noted that an audit is being carried out in respect of the volume of work which is covered by the area offices.  Cllr Byrne asked whether all of the area offices are being audited.  Cllr Byrne hopes that the audit will bring a positive outcome in respect of the continued existence of the area offices.

Mr. Shane Tiernan, Director of Services stated that the council are conducting a transactional and work flow audit for the area offices and the members will be given feedback on the completion of this project.  Mr. Shane Tiernan, Director of Services stated that the closure of offices had not been mentioned.  Mr. Shane Tiernan, Director of Services stated that the Council had multiple obligations as a public office and that the purpose of the audit is to gather all the factual information and make an appropriate assessment as to how to best deploy resources.

Road Works on the N61

Minutes:

Cllr Byrne queried the possibility of work being carried out on the N61, on the portion of road stretching from Killina to the ‘Four Provinces’ public house.  Cllr Byrne asked about the possibility of the TII carrying out work on this stretch of road.  Mr. Shane Tiernan Director of Services responded by saying that this query would be passed on to the TII Co-Ordiinator.  Cllr Liam Callaghan supported Cllr Byrne on this matter.

Road Works on the N5

Minutes:

Cllr Cummins asked if the TII could carry out work on the portion of road stretching from Tulsk to Carrowreagh Townland near Rathcroghan.  Cllr Callaghan expressed his support on this matter.

Current road works in the village of Tulsk

Minutes:

Cllr Callaghan queried the delay in the completion of road works in Tulsk village.  Mr. Michael Conlon Boyle Municipal District Co-Ordinator stated that the delay was caused by having to lower the services to facilitate the lowering of the road.   Mr. Michael Conlon, Municipal District Co-Ordinator stated that work should be completed in a number of weeks.  Cllr Callaghan stated that the work was causing long tailbacks at peak travel times.  Mr. Michael Conlon Municipal District Co-Ordinator responded by stating that there are now phased lights in operation to accommodate traffic volume at peak journey times.

Noise Pollution

Minutes:

Cllr. Mulligan queried what action can be taken in respect of noise created by hens.  Mr. Shane Tiernan, Director of Services informed the members that if there is an issue with noise then the Environmental Department could investigate.
