It was AGREED to adopt the minutes of the Roscommon Municipal District Meeting of 24th July, 2025.

It was AGREED to adopt the Minutes of the Roscommon Municipal District Special Meeting of 25th August, 2025.

Feedback from the Town Team Meetings

Minutes:

Cllr. McDermott and Cllr. Brennan gave an update from the Roscommon Town Team

  • No recent meeting of the town team was held but there is a meeting scheduled for 17th September
  • The town team met with the Tourism Officer and Roscommon Area Office regarding plans for the Xmas Festival

 

Cllr. Dineen and Fitzmaurice gave an update from the Castlerea Town Team

  • Castlerea Town Centre First Plan is being developed with proposals to enhance various areas within the town
  • New volunteers have also come on board

Votes of Congratulations/Sympathy

Minutes:

Votes of congratulations were sent to Aoife O’Rourke on her fantastic performance in winning a World Title at the World Boxing Championships held in Liverpool. Congratulations were extended to her sister Lisa for her impressive performance, her family and Paddy Sharkey who started training both girls in Castlerea Boxing Club. Their work ethic and commitment were commended by the members who described them as exceptional ambassadors for County Roscommon on a world stage. Chris Flynn, Director of Services reiterated the comments of the members and stated that Roscommon County Council were immensely proud of their achievements.

APPROVAL OF CIVIC RECEPTION

On the PROPOSAL of Cllr. Fitzmaurice

            SECONDED by Cllr. Dineen

It was AGREED by all the members that Roscommon County Council honour Aoife O’Rourke on winning gold in the women’s 75kg division of the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool.

On the PROPOSAL of Cllr. Brennan

            SECONDED by Cllr. Holland

It was AGREED by all the members that Roscommon County Council honour Charlie Mulvihill, boys under 11, Aoife McManus, ladies under 21, Conan Cregg, gents under 19 and the Ceilí under 19 group, all members of the Shannon Dance Academy who won titles at the Irish Open Championships 2025.  It was also agreed to honour Charlie Mulvihill, boys under 11, Aoife McManus, ladies under 21, Conan Cregg, gents under 19, Emily Mulvihill, girls under 9, Ceilí under 10 and freestyle under 16 who won titles at the World Championships 2025.

It was AGREED by all the members that Roscommon County Council honour Elizabeth Glancy, Teacher, Roscommon Community College who won the overall teacher prize at the Young Scientist Awards.

It was AGREED by all the members that Roscommon County Council honour Roscommon Community College TY Drama Group who won best set, best lighting and best acting at the TY Ireland Drama Awards for their performance of Macbeth.

  • Cllr. Dineen queried if a letter had been sent to the Road Safety Authority

  • Cllr. Fitzmaurice expressed his appreciation for the line marking that was carried out at Gorthaganny Church
  • Tom McDermott, Municipal District Co-ordinator confirmed that we are waiting on a contractor to come in to repaint the one-hour parking spots at Main Street, Roscommon
  • Cllr. Fitzmaurice requested that the one hour parking spaces in Castlerea be upgraded and Tom McDermott, Municipal District Co-ordinator agreed to inspect them
