Naming of proposed housing development at Ardnanagh, Lisnamult, Roscommon

as College Court – Cúirt Choláiste

Minutes:

Majella Hunt, Director of Services explained that we need to decide on a name to easily identify this Local Authority housing project for 2023 at Ardnanagh and proposed the name “College Court” as the Community College is around the corner from the proposed development.

 

The members were not happy with the name “College Court” and felt that a name making reference to the railway would be more fitting.  It was decided to adjourn the item and come back to the next MD meeting with some suggestions.

Feedback from the Town Team Meetings

Minutes:

Cllr Leyden and Cllr. Shanagher gave an update from the Roscommon Town Team:

 

·         The Ranelagh Osteoarchaeology project: The sculptor is being designed at the moment by Mark Feely (commissioned artist). Creative Ireland and Roscommon Town Team funded the project.

·         We are waiting on Leader to approve funding applications to carry out feasibility studies for the Edenville project and the skate park. EOI’s were lodged in 2020/2021.

·         The new tourism banners are erected on the poles at Roscommon Abbey and Castle etc.

·         The floral display at Roscommon railway station has been completed with financial assistance from Roscommon Town Team

·         The Town Team supported the Tourism Office financially with costs.

·         Roscommon Town Team provided sponsorship to Ros FM for the community diary.

·         Roscommon Town Team financially supported the Roscommon Easter parade in 2022.

·         The Roscommon Town Team, Roscommon Town app is ready to launch and a meeting with be called soon to organise this.

·         Roscommon Town Team is looking for funding opportunities to progress the community CCTV project to phase 2.

·         Roscommon Town Team provided financial support to the Quad (Foróige) to enable disadvantaged young people to engage in sport and access sporting facilities and support social inclusion at Roscommon Community Sports Park Astro Turf pitch. 

Cllr. Fitzmaurice gave an update from the Castlerea Town Team –

·         On 5th August the Castlerea Town Team launched their Explore Town Team app which is a fantastic tool with links to every business and accommodation in Castlerea

·         The painting scheme is finished

·         The tourist signage is done

·         The signage to identify Castlerea town was erected in conjunction with Roscommon County Council

·         They had applied for a number of matched funding projects for Castlerea town and one of them was seating for Castlerea pool which has been installed.  The town team also purchased additional seating for the pool over and above the matched funding

·         Castlerea Town Team was also involved in a new CCTV system for the town and facilitated Castlerea Community CCTV with funding towards the project which is now moving on to the next stage with An Garda Siochána

·         Castlerea Town Team are also looking at future projects

 

Majella Hunt asked that the message be brought back to all Town Teams within the Roscommon Municipal District to look at the claims they have to send in for 2021 and submit their Programme of Works for 2022.

Minutes:

The following items was raised under AOB –

·         The heavy rainfall in August caused shop premises and private residences to be flooded in Castlerea town.  The capacity of the pipework in Castlerea town was discussed and ways to prevent future flooding incidents with requests for a survey of the existing pipework.

·         Request for the road sweeper to sweep the streets in Castlerea town more regularly.

·         Enquiry regarding the maintenance of Roscommon Town Square and where the budget will come from to ensure ongoing long term maintenance works. 

·         Compliments for the great work carried out on the footpaths on the Circular road and Lanesboro road.

·         Request for more bins to be replaced by the ones with smaller appetures.

·         Request for an update on the traffic count and speed survey at the Walk and for it to be placed on the agenda for the next Roscommon Municipal District meeting.

·         Request for CIE to be notified that the glass at the bus shelter in Roscommon town is shattered.

·         Thanks to the staff of Roscommon Operational area for their quick response to the flooding in Roscommon town especially out the Galway road and request that Roscommon County Council pursue the capacity issue with the pipes at this location with the TII.

·         Compliments to everyone for keeping the flowers looking so well at Roscommon Railway Station.

·         Requests for another awareness campaign regarding parking in Roscommon town.

·         Enquiry if the Municipal District Fund grant could be drawn down based on the invoice instead of a receipt as the group was finding it difficult to source bridging finance.

·         Request by Cllr. Waldron that the Cathaoirleach’s of the three Municipal Districts meet to discuss drawing down funds for the River Suck

·         Reports of a great summer at Somers Park and the swimming pool in Castlerea with over 15,000 people visiting the pool and great feedback also received from the Cinema night and Eagles Tribute Band events held at Somers Park.

·         Request for letter to be sent to the TII asking for continuous white lines to be placed on two stretches of road between Four Mile House and the turn off for Strokestown and at Lisagallon between Cloverhill National School and the bend before the Racecourse to stop cars overtaking and make it safer.

 

Majella Hunt and Anthony McDermott responded to the issues raised -

·         Anthony McDermott, Executive Engineer responded to the issues regarding flooding and explained that all issues with capacity requires design work.  We can carry out a survey but we would need a commitment as regards funding for the works.

·         Anthony McDermott acknowledged that the survey at The Walk was completed but that any subsequent works also need to be funded.

·         Majella Hunt, Director of Services acknowledged all the problems at Roscommon Town Square with vehicle parking and oil spillage from lorries.  She agreed to come back to the next meeting with figures for cleaning the area and source a budget for ongoing maintenance.  Majella thanked Roscommon Tidy Towns who were instrumental in keeping the  ...  view the full minutes text for item 58.22
