Minutes:

There were no declarations of interest from the Members.

 

2.22

Presentation from Mote Park Conservation Group

Minutes:

The Cathaoirleach welcomed Eilish Feely, Secretary of Mote Park Conservation Group to give a remote presentation to the Elected members.

 

Eilish Feeley gave a background on the group and their work in Mote Park since 1998 and spoke about the future recreational development and forest management plans for Mote Park.

 

The members thanked Eilish for her presentation, acknowledged the work of volunteers in the Mote Park Conservation Group and pledged their continued support towards future projects in Mote Park.

 

Majella Hunt, Director of Services updated the members as follows –

·         The plans to develop a viewing tower at Mote Park has been put on hold due to the enormous costs of installing and maintaining the tower and the insurance obligations resting solely with Roscommon County Council.  The upgrade on the trails will be going ahead in conjunction with the car park.

·         The €500,000 Outdoor Recreation funding for Mote Park is preserved with plans under consideration for two new trails and a cycleway link to Athleague.  Roscommon County Council will go back to the Department and get approval to change this element of the ORIS application and meet with Mote Park Conservation Group in early February to discuss future projects.

 

The members thanked Majella Hunt for the update and enquired if there were any plans to increase signage at Mote Park. 

Neal Geraghty, A/Municipal District Co-ordinator agreed to liaise with the project team and provide signage if funding allows.

Roscommon Municipal District Meeting – 18th November, 2021

It was AGREED to adopt the Minutes of the Roscommon Municipal District Meeting of 18th November, 2021.

Matters arising from the minutes

Minutes:

·         Cllr. Leyden enquired if there was an update on lowering the speed limit at Cloverhill National School

In reply, A/Municipal District Co-ordinator, Neal Geraghty confirmed that there was nothing significant to report and agreed to relay the urgency of this matter to the Roads Department.

Declaration of Public Roads

Declaration of Public Roads - Request to have the roads located within housing development at the following locations in the Roscommon Municipal District declared to be public roads:

·         ArdRi, Galway Road, Roscommon Town

·         Castle Park, Roscommon Town

·         Lisacul Park, Lisacul

·         Lisacul Manor, Lisacul

 

Minutes:

On the PROPOSAL of Councillor Fitzmaurice

            SECONDED by Councillor Shanagher

It was AGREED that the roads located at Ard, Galway road, Roscommon town, Castle Park, Roscommon town, Lisacul Park, Lisacul and Lisacul Manor, Lisacul be declared public roads.

Communities Activities Fund (CAF)

Minutes:

Majella Hunt, Director of Servicesintroduced the Communities Activities Fund

·         It is an open call and can be utilised as matched funding in certain circumstances

·         Roscommon County Council will have €266,602 to allocate under the scheme

·         The online application process is now open and the closing date is 1pm on 11th February, 2022

·         There are long lists of works eligible under the scheme which will benefit groups needing help with their running expenses and costs associated with repairs and improvements to their facilities

·         Full procurement must be submitted with the online application and all applications will be assessed by the LCDC with the applicants being informed by late March

Votes of sympathy were expressed to

·         The Travers family on the passing of Monsignor Charles Travers R.I.P.

·         The Dineen family on the passing of Breege Dineen, mother of Cllr. Nigel Dineen

·         The Cronin family, Mote Park on the passing of Sonny Cronin R.I.P.

Minutes:

Cllr. Shanagher requested that she make a nomination for a civic reception -

On the PROPOSAL of Cllr Shanagher

            SECONDED by Cllr Leyden

It was AGREED that Roscommon County Council honour at the next civic reception, Aoife Connolly who won first prize at this year's Fleadh Fest in Sligo for U-12 Scéalaíocht (Storytelling).

 

The members raised the following items

·         An update on Cloonkeen junction

·         An update on the renaming of Knockroe Estate in Castlerea

·         An enquiry if any correspondence was received from the TII regarding the location and design of the pedestrian crossing at Main Street, Castlerea

·         Well done to everyone involved in the success of the Roscommon and Strokestown Christmas Fairs

 

Neal Geraghty, A/Municipal District Co-ordinator replied as follows-

·         The signs will be erected within the next month at Cloonkeen junction

·         We have no report yet from the TII but when we receive it we will circulate it

·         No update on the renaming of Knockroe Estate due to Covid-19 restrictions

It was agreed that thenext Roscommon MD Meeting will be held on 24th March, 2022 at 10 a.m.
