Matters arising from the minutes

Minutes:

A query was raised regarding the proposed taxi rank at Roscommon Train Station.  John Mockler stated that he had visited the location and in his opinion there was no requirement for a taxi parking space within the confines of the site.  There is an anticlockwise traffic flow in place and any design would have to match this.  The space would then be the property of Roscommon County Council and this would not work within an already flawed traffic management system.  It was agreed to hold off on a taxi space for the moment.

A discussion took place concerning the CCTV project in Roscommon Town.  John Mockler indicated that the project was delayed due to waiting on nine ESB connections.  Electric Skyline were in the process of sorting out the connections, which will allow the CCTV Contractor to finish the work.  Signs are to be erected on all poles and approach roads.  We are not ready to launch it yet until all works are finalised.  We expect to go live within the next month.

A query was raised concerning the Doughil road.  John Mockler confirmed that it is not a public road and Coillte have not acquired the last section of it.

Feedback from the Town Team Meetings

Minutes:

In Castlerea signs are being erected for the Breifne Walk.  The new playground and car park is working out very well.  Castlerea Town Team will hold a meeting on Tuesday 18th September to discuss future plans.

In Roscommon they are busy preparing for the Wellbeing event on Saturday 22nd September.  They have also planned Healthy Ireland funded workshops in October.  The overall aim is to establish Roscommon Town as a holistic and family friendly town.

They are waiting to hear back in relation to the town park and the Town and Village renewal.

The interactive walk is proving to be a great success and overall Roscommon Town Team is working out really well.

A.O.B.

Minutes:

An enquiry was made about the erection of one or two cameras at the playground in Castlerea on the basis that it would act as a deterrent.  John Mockler stated that you could not erect cameras facing onto the playground but maybe you could erect them so as to observe traffic coming in and out.

A discussion took place regarding the traffic management plan for the road works at the Square in Roscommon Town.  John stated that it will be carried out in 3 phases and that the project was delayed due to essential footpath works.  We are waiting on dates from Harrington Contractors so that we can re-advertise the road closures.  We expect to have it completed within the next two months.

Cllr. Creaton mentioned that there are dangerous high trees falling out on the road which leads up to the Convent in Loughglynn.  The forestry contractors are finished and they left these trees behind.  John Mockler stated that it is the landowner’s responsibility.  However, he will ask John Quigley to take a look at them.

Members expressed a preference for the Budget meeting to be held on Thursday 18th October or Friday 19th October due to other commitments that week.  It was agreed to pass this message to Martin Lydon.
