Approval of Civic Reception Request - Aoife O'Rourke

It was AGREED to hold a Civic Reception to honour Aoife O’Rourke for her outstanding achievement at winning a European Silver Boxing Medal.

It was AGREED to hold a Civic Reception to honour Katie Heneghan for her outstanding achievement on winning the All Ireland Scór na nÓg Final in Recitation/Storytelling.

Approval of Civic Reception Request - CBS Roscommon

It was AGREED to hold a Civic Reception to honour the CBS students on winning the Irish Schools Senior Golf Championships in April.

Feedback from the Town Team Meetings

Minutes:

A brief discussion took place on work undertaken by the Town Team.

 

Ten signs will be placed around the town for the launch of the Heritage Walking Tours app.

 

A“Well Being Weekend”is planned for September on Gut Health.

 

CCTV is now installed in Roscommon town. Access to cameras will be allocated to three staff members and Gardai will have viewing/reviewing rights for 28 days footage and contact Roscommon County Council regarding prosecutions. 

 

Martin Lydon mentioned the Planning Department will submit three options to the Town Team for Main Street before the end of the year.  Cllr. Leyden expressed her concern over the need for coach parking to be included.

 

Emmet Humphreys and Adrian Kielty are liaising with Community & Enterprise regarding the application for Town and Village Renewal funding.

 

John Mockler will erect signs as requested by Councillor Creaton for the walkway and cycle way on the O’Sullivan Bere route. 

 

Councillor Fitzmaurice acknowledged the work carried out by volunteers on the Bus Shelter in Castlerea.

It was AGREED to name the new playground “Somers Park”.

This is in remembrance of the Somers family and their generous donation of €10,000 towards the Project. The Playground will open on the 29th July.  Councillor Fitzmaurice also thanked the Council staff for their work on the Project.

 

Councillor Dineen also acknowledged the work of the Town Team with the painting of the derelict buildings in Castlerea and the success of the one hour parking spaces.

It was AGREED to allow Roscommon Town Team change funding allocated to the Purple Flag Project to be used instead for developing a website for the town.  The app. can be linked to Castlerea Town Team and the Tourism Office.

It was AGREED to move funding allocated to Road No. L6608 on the Roads Programme to L6602. 

 

Councillor Leyden travelled to Chartrette to celebrate 20 years of Town Twinning with Roscommon and on the PROPOSAL of Councillor Leyden

                SECONDED by Councillor Shanagher

 It was AGREED to name the footpath connecting Market Square to the Car Park Rue de Chartrette. 

Martin Lydon stated that he would make enquiries if this was possible.

 

A discussion took place in relation to the provision of a taxi rank at the train station in Roscommon. It was agreed that Roscommon County Council would survey the area to see if there was a demand or a need for individual taxi spaces given the limited number of car parking spaces in the immediate vicinity of the train station.

 

A discussion took place in relation to the Clár applications.  All Clár applications concerning school lights were evaluated by the Community & Enterprise department.  John Mockler gave priority to Ballyleague over Cloontuskert during that process as it is on a National Road. John agreed to prioritise any future application for school lights at Cloontuskert.

It was AGREED to prioritise Cloontuskert during the next Clár application process.

 

Antogher Road - Martin Lydon will speak with Eugene Dwyer regarding the project at Antogher road.

 

A small section of the road on the Doughil side of the Sliabh Bán Wind Farm is not adequately surfaced.  John Mockler confirmed that the road is not a public road but we will look into the ownership of the road.

 

John Mockler is looking into sourcing a second verge trimmer for the Roscommon Area.  Councillor Fitzmaurice expressed the need to prioritise junctions. John will also follow up on the three new green parking spaces in Castlerea town as requested by Councillor Fitzmaurice.

 

New bins will be placed in the Town Park on a pilot scheme basis.

 

Martin Lydon will contact Barry Doyle to see if the “What 3 Words” app can be integrated into Roscommon County Council’s system.

 

Councillor Dineen asked if the €85,000 which communities are in receipt of yearly could be given to bigger projects in order to leverage more exchequer funding.  This discussion can take place at the review of the Municipal District Fund Grant Scheme.
